Twelve high priests organized into a high council in Clay County, Missouri, with David Whitmer selected as the council's president, and John Whitmer and William W. Phelps as counselors. During his ordination blessing Joseph Smith ordained David Whitmer a "Prophet, Seer and Revelator and Translator." After the blessing the Prophet explained that Whitmer "was to be a leader or a prophet to this church, which was on condition that he (Joseph Smith) did not live to God himself."

This was a bogus ordination, as are all false ordinations to the false office of false high priest. Jesus Christ, and Jesus Christ alone, is our Great High Priest per the Book of Hebrews in the New Testament. The next highest ordained office from an elder (or pastor) in the one and only one Holy Priesthood after the order of the Son of God is to that of an evangelist in the quorum of 70 per Ephesians 4:11-13.

"Seeing then that we have a GREAT HIGH PRIEST, that is passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our profession."(Heb.4:14).
