[Apostle Wilford Woodruff] I had a peculiar dream last night one that is unutterable & Cannot be written for I cannot comprehend it all myself. I was called to hold the keys of the kingdom of God in all the world with the quorum of the Twelve & traveld with them over much of the world, & finally traveld through many countries alone & when I got through I saw many things I cannot write but in the end Br Joseph Smith Assisted me to come into the place whare he was and Pointed out my work, portion, & labour. I immediately entered into the duties assigned me.

I also had another dream. Was in the Presence of Br Joseph Smith. Was conversing about his death. Told him I felt bad about it & If I had known he would have been taken away so soon I should have conversed more with him & asked him more questions. Said it was not his fault that I did not. Speaking of my work & duties said I had better get a dozen to help me.

  1. Unfortunately and tragically for his eternal soul, WW did not remain faithful to the Lord - entering into the whoredom and abomination of polygamy with 3 women in Aug.1846, and others thereafter, eventually having 34 children by 6 wives; and never truly repenting of his whoredom despite issuing the Manifesto of Oct.1890 which was just a political ruse. At the time of these 2 dreams WW was still a monogamist and was in his actions faithful to the true commandments of the Lord.

If WW had remained faithful to the Lord he would have joined up with the Sidney Rigdon-William Bickerton organization (1845-1862) and may very well have become a member of the 1st Quorum of 12 Apostles in The Church of Jesus Christ in July 1862. (WHQ: Monongahela, Pennsylvania).

Such are the strange twists and turns of one man's life and history.

  3. "in the end Br Joseph Smith Assisted me to come into the place whare he was [the paradise of God]"

If WW would have joined with the Rigdon-Bickerton organization, he would have joined JS there in Paradise. But WW took the wrong course and did not.
